There are so many loudspeakers speakers from our native land, the United States of America, that you could call us the audiophile capital of the world. There are plenty of speakers from other parts of the world that get wonderful reviews and editorial love and rightfully so but their tariffs, shipping costs and overall high labor costs make them not as tempting of a value. Many audiophiles look to speakers from the good, old U.S.A for the best of the best. The same goes for high performance audiophile subwoofers.

Here are some of the most popular, most beloved audiophile speakers made in the United States.

MartinLogan ESL – These see-through speakers pair an electrostatic panel with a dynamic bass driver for a more traditional way to get the magical electrostatic sound without worrying about how to get low bass. For well under $3,000, you get a whole audiophile experience made in Canada.

JBL L-100 Speakers – Designed by JBL (Harman) in Northridge, California, the JBL L-100 is a classic, stand-mounted speaker design that was used in the iconic Maxell cassette tape print ad in the 1970 with the guy being blown away by sound while sitting in a Le Corbusier chair. These speakers have been redesigned and re-engineered for the modern era but keep their vintage appeal visually.

Magnepan .7 speakers – These speakers, made in Great Bear Lake, Minnesota, are some ugly-ass speakers but have also (like the JBL L-100s above) been redesigned by a better speaker engineer and for about $1,000 you get a really impressive pair of speakers that are thin, ugly and unappealing visually. If you like a six-foot-tall violin sound, they are the right speaker for you. If you like accurate sound – try something else.

Orb Audio Mod 1 Speakers These boob-shaped speakers are made of metal and fully designed and assembled in the home of pornography, Chatsworth, California. They are built fantastically well and kick the life out of other speakers (think: Bose) in their small-speaker in their class. They have over 2,000 5-star reviews over 20 years and are sold to audiophiles direct over the Internet. Often Orb Audio speakers are sold with an American designed, Polk Audio PSW111 subwoofer sub. Orb Audio also makes their own subwoofers too.

Wilson Audio Sasha DAW This high end audiophile speaker made in Provo, Utah is one of the most lauded speakers in audiophile history. Priced at close to $40,000 – they used to be called Wilson WATT Puppy speakers and were priced closer to $10,000 in the early 1990s. They are custom painted and easy to drive. They are often paired with Transparent Cable, dCS digital and D’Agostino electronics for a truly high end system.

Tekton Design Pendragon Speakers Yet another speaker with custom colors that is both designed and hand-made in Utah, the Tekton Pendragon is a Wilson killer at one tenth of the price. The cabinets aren’t as fancy as Wilsons but their price is easier to take and their sound is dynamic, powerful and compelling.

There are many more speaker companies making great speakers in the United States and we will add more as we get a chance. Stay tuned.
